Make sure there's enough water in the bowl to cover the suction cup, then push and pull firmly. If that doesn't work, consider using a toilet auger to dislodge the blockage.
When dealing with a blocked sink, start by pouring boiling water down the drain to dissolve grease and loosen debris. You can often find sink unblocking solutions at local shops stocking drain gel. Plungers may also be used to dislodge clogs. For stubborn blockages, consider using a drain snake to break up the obstruction, or use a mixture of baking soda and vinegar.
